Email: peter.gotham@gothamerskine.co.uk
Peter formed Gotham & Co. in 1981 to develop the services which he had been providing to small organisations on a voluntary basis, for over 10 years. This included being a founder member of a number of community organisations and housing initiatives, including the first tenant management co-operative in the country. Peter continues to be active as a trustee, and honorary advisor to a number of charities.
Peter advises a wide range of clients that vary in size from reasonably small organisations to some substantial, nationally known bodies. In addition to work with ongoing clients he undertakes consultancy assignments for not for profit organisations, statutory bodies and local authorities.
He lectures and writes on finance for the non-professional, on charity accounting, and on solvency management.
Peter is currently Chairman of the Charities and Voluntary Sector Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (a Special Interest Group at the Institute with over 2,000 members). In addition to this Peter continues to provide voluntary support to several charities.
Peter has had a significant technical input to legislative changes affecting the sector, and is now on the national SORP Committee - working on developing the Statement of Recommended Practice for charity accounts.
Peter is a Visiting Fellow at the Cass Centre for Charity Effectiveness at City University, and lectures on the Charity Finance MSc there. At Cass he chairs the committee on the post qualification diploma in charity accounting (DChA) that has been launched jointly with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
A licensed insolvency practitioner, Peter is a director at Begbies Traynor – a national corporate recovery practice, where he specialises in working with not for profit entities.
